New blog! Woot!

Hello there, internet!

New blog – got bored of the restrictions of LJ. I’ll attempt to update this once a week, with new ideas, random ideas, song lyrics that are going round in my head, my weekly playlist, that sorta thing. I’ll probably include food and other stuff, along with bitchings and moanings about various things. Another thing i’ll post is my Videogame of the week( or month, or whenever i update it). All of my posts may contain discussions which some people of a more sensitive nature. If the F Bomb offends you, go elsewhere. That said, those posts with strong language will be tagged as such.

The name of my blog comes from my (current) university, where i’m a student of International Politics (on the Strategic Studies course). I’m liking the look of the new modules – Understanding terror looks ace, as does Humanitarian intervention. Warfare in the 20th century looks meh, but i have to do it so… *shrug*

With that out of the way, here’s a proper post. If you ain’t interested in my love-life (and believe me, there’s nothing to be interested in at the mo) scroll down past the next set of asterisks to see my thoughts on Burnout Paradise, Mass Effect and the fallout around that, and other more or less interesting stuff

First off, I’ve just come back from canada, and was a little hung up about one of my mates (those who know me may well know who i mean, they may not) but I’ve been less hung up since I caught up with her. Dunno if its just the fact she’s currently spoken for or whether I was overcomplicating things or what. She’s an amazing woman (“girl” although more popular and possibly more apt, just doesn’t do her justice). She’s passionate, but not in the really annoying Miss World everyones-lovely-and-we-should-all-just-get-along kinda way but the more down to earth people-are-shit-but-lets-try-and-change-the-world-anyway kinda way. Along with this, she’s funny, intelligent (all the marks she’s got were a good 10-15 points above mine) and generally awesome to be around. To top it off, she’s quite attractive in the unconventional manner I find to be damn hott, and has this near-permanent grin of mischief on her face. She’s just amazing.

She’s not perfect. She hates quite a few people (read, 99% of the planet) and can be bitchy. she’s quite good at hiding her feelings as well, something I’d probably get annoyed at. The former can be awesome when you agree with her. there was a guy in our seminars last year in the last semester we used to bitch about ALL the way home (20 mins+).

Still, she’s spoken for and me being the English gentleman i am, i don’t do attached women. As such, it’s made me realize just how picky a man i am. No real interest at the moment. Cute girl in the sailing club called Micah, and i dunno why but I’m just not interested.

Ah well.

Videogames – go buy Burnout Paradise- A-Mazing game. srsly, it’s brill. Mass Effect is also awesome. Funny how all the video game haters have come out of the woodwork for something which you could show just before the watershed and would probably hit cinemas with a 12 maybe a 15 sticker. No pixelated boobage, just flesh. No giant rock-hard cock slapping the female of your choice (if your avatar is male) in the face, just some strong suggestions of sex. People should be ashamed of themselves. Don’t judge something from what you hear before attempting to censor it (Shit, ideally don’t censor at all!) but play it for yourself. Heck its available on Youtube!
bloody idiots. Still, at least Jack Thompson has disappeared, hopefully never to be heard from again.

Politics wise, I’m looking forward to the next few months of campaigning in the promised land. My utter hope is that Obama wins, and he could well at the moment. Then again, if Hillary gets the nomination and John McCain wins the Republican nomination, it could really go either way. If McCain doesn’t get the nomination, (which is a little more likely than him getting it IMO) then the democrats have nothing to worry about. Guliani isn’t going to win against hillary, nor is Huckabee or any of the other republican candidates. Ron Paul has to fight against a conspiracy, unfortunately. This conspiracy is of a large group of people who’s shadowy motives are unknown, only that Ron Paul being elected is against their interests. The name of this shadowy group? The voting public.
Seriously tho. Ron Paul has about as much of a chance of becoming president of the USA as i do of flying unaided across the channel by flapping my arms really hard.

Music wise, i’m currently listening to 9 by Damien Rice. Awesome artist. love the album. if you haven’t got it, go buy it. I will be waking up to whatever the MP3 player decides to put on tomorrow, but it will quickly be replaced by the awesomeness of Jets to Brazil’s Crown of the Valley. Great track, great artist. the whole album is awesome, especially King Medicine (“Foulweather friend, you were so dying, an amateur chemist now. King medicine, When is it perfect? where is it taking you?”) and Sea Anemone :

the curtain’s a sea anemone
in the way it sways
to the slow breeze
i lie spread out on the floor
looking at these things
and most of them are yours
and it’s so nice
sitting very still
without those old shoes
i could never fill
starfish with its arms out in a daze
staring at the stars
through an ocean haze
was i one you wished upon
burned out like a lightbulb
when you turned me on
and it’s so nice
sleeping here all alone
with my ashtray
white courtesy telephone
now i’m making out the shapes
like the shower rod – can it take my weight?
i will tell you i am fine
i got some news, friend, feels like i’m dying
turtle on its back in the desert sea
and you look like a cool drink
just slightly out of reach
draw myself into the shell
waiting on a sign from god
or a nod from hell
and it’s so nice
sitting very still
without those old shoes
i could never fill
now we’re turning out the lights
it’s the first day of my second life
take my name off of the lease
you can even keep the name
it never suited me

One Response to “New blog! Woot!”

  1. You had me worried that you’d been Ron Pauled there for a moment…

(More seriously, the US media’s treatment of him is abysmal. Sure, he’s a nutcase and has a whelk’s chance in a supernova of getting elected, or even of becoming a candidate. He also had an annoying habit of getting primary results comparable with the stragglers amongst the mainstream candidates, and they could at least have the decency to not quietly sweep that under the rug.)

Also, I see WordPress.com still doesn’t support OpenID for comments. Like most companies, they’re more than happy to let you use your account as an OpenID to login elsewhere, just not on their site.
