Music-wot-I-discovered-this-month
I’ve been on a bit of a random new bands binge this month. It all started with New Year’s Day – a rather cheesy but good “Emo” band. Their main song i know is “Ready Aim misfire” as heard on Saints Row – youtube it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGjKaxjFbnw
Apart from some VERY trite lyrics (“Your love is my heart disease”… just… wow. How shit is that lyric…) they’ve got a good sound. enjoyable to listen to but probably would not buy an album.
Paramore are another story. Also fronted by a girl, this time they’re a more pop-punk band with less of a two dimensional sound. Often, these guys sound better acoustic but their rockier versions are also cool. Good tracks to check out by these guys include Pressure (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=weH_DWaDTq8) and Emergency (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqpFTJ0vpLw&feature=related). Misery Business (acoustic – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiR838VOCrA . Studio – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2JyS7Mp9QM ) is also a good. Don’t bother checking out the band’s “official” channel on youtube, FueledbyRamen. For some stupid reason they’ve blocked access from anywhere but the USA. Which is helpful of them… *roll*.
Continuing the female-lead for a moment, Flyleaf are definitely worth a look. they’re an all Christian band, but much like P.O.D (remember them?) they don’t like the CCM label and as such are on a secular label. i love these guys for the dark edge so often missing from Christian band. awesome music, amazing lead singer. Check ‘em out! All Around Me is their best single imo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdDJ6wp-MSQ)
Newton Faulkner is made of win. No other explanation for his general awesomeness. you may remember him as the guy who did a simply amazing cover of Teardrop and made it onto the Live Lounge CD despite being relatively unknown. He’s done loads of other aweosme songs, like UFO – (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23aw1480WJk&feature=user) or People Should Smile More (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiD1T0aCCKc)
30 Seconds to Mars are also awesome, although a little bit pretentious/cynical with the emo-cash in they’ve been doing. From Yesterday (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxNAVq2qYmU&feature=related) is a good track, but don’t miss Capricorn (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwMxb0NXXyo&feature=related), an earlier track from a less “emo” period.
The Cribs are the final band i will bother your musical tastes with – they’re a good band, solidly alternative rock with catchy riffs and awesome tunes. Mens Needs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCNTYi9fHuo) is an awesome tune. the rest of their album (mans needs, womans needs, whatever) is very good as well. go listen to them!
Annoyingly i’ve been really tempted to buy another copy of Silent Alarm in order to get hold of Little Thoughts and Tulips. Gr. Ah well, may just get them off someone else or buy the singles.
Well, thats all for now
Pete.
